Time Machine Not Responding to NBN Cable

Hi, hoping for someone who can shed some light on my technological dilemma. I'm from a rural community where we just got NBN connected. We've managed to connect the main computer to the NBN satellite and it's working, but when we plug the NBN cable into Time machine to get the Wifi up and going we only get a yellow light (doesn't turn green) and can't find any way to configure it to NBN. Can anyone please help?

Hiya..

Satellite setups are usually a bit tricky because you don't get a public IP.

So you need to double NAT.. and at a guess your going to get a 10.x.x.x address which will mess things up on the TC..

So simple solution.. maybe.. jumping through a whole pile of hoops.

Go to the network tab and change the IP options to 192.168.1.1 here.

Don't worry about my values.. but you should see Router Mode.. DHCP and NAT. If not change to that.

Then click on Network Options on the bottom of the page.

Change the DHCP range to 192.168 .. don't worry about the other values.. mine are strange.

Save and then update.

You will get a double NAT warning.. ignore it.. that is just part of the hassles with this kind of setup.

No luck give me a screenshot of the Mac plugged directly to the NBN modem.. ethernet settings tab..

ie this one...

You should also set IPv6 to link local only in both the TC and the computer.. here and here.

Hi, DiTTO!!! I got the TC to transmit the wifi by taking the TC "off bridge mode" in the settings of TC. But then we have a new problem, TC can only transmit the wifi to only one idevice at a time so ie if desktop using internet, I get an error on my iPad to say it is hooked to wifi signal but has no internet. The only way we can use wifi is to turn all idevices to airport mode and only have the one device talking to the wifi to use the nbn connection. So I ring apple who have elevated my question to the "engineering team" because amongst this wifi issue my backups have stopped! as my iMac cant find the data drive? weird. I have used my TC on satellite internet for years and the backups have never missed and I used it with the double NAT error fine, but ever since the new NBN Skymuster modem it has been problems with wifi and backups using Time Capsule (TC).

LaPastenague - YOU FIXED IT!! THIS WORK AROUND WORKS, I HAVE THE double Nat error and orange flashing on my TC but I have internet on ALL devices and my backup is working to TC!! You fixed my wifi on NBN Skymuster satellite internet connection Yahooooo. I have the blue ethernet cable going from NBN modem to TC and blue cable going from TC to iMac. With the settings you published TC works again - Yahooo Buckaroooooo!!!!

Thanks for the feedback..

This is common problem with satellite and any sort of wireless internet.

The double NAT problem is one you simply cannot avoid unless they finally move to IPv6.

If you have issues with say a game console.. put it's IP into the reservations so it does not keep changing. Then make that IP default host.. and that should help with access to the various interactive items.
