fios live tv not working with Sierra 10.12.1

Verizon FIOS LIVE TV streaming over ethernet no longer works with Sierra 10.12.1 / Safari 10.0.1 on my iMac late 2009. The other streaming options like past TV episodes, movies, etc. all work. Fios Live TV works fine on my iPad and works on the same iMac under FireFox. When a channel like CNN is selected, the video window stays black with no loading activity, while the info bar at the bottom says the channel is playing. Verizon says there is a problem, but won't say who's problem it is. Any insights?

Companies' webmasters code/design their software/programs to work with certain browsers of their choice. Nowadays, most of them are designed to work with all/most modern browsers; however, there are exceptions. I once had to change banks because mine informed me that their site was designed to work with Internet Explorer and why did I not have that installed. I changed banks. I cannot pay my bill with my electric company using Firefox (my preferred browser); it works with Safari only.

P.S. Everything works fine on Chrome as well. I also find that many links within the Verizon FIOS website do not work in Safari, but do in Firefox.

Just to add, I have FIOS. In my area, unlike FIOS Mobile which is great and I can watch local channels, cable channels, On Demand and anything recorded on the DVR, FIOS through a browser, any browser, is extremely limited. I can't watch local channels, most cable channels, On Demand etc. no matter which browser I pick. Even some channels which are supposed to work give me a not available in my area message. Needless to say I don't bother trying to watch in a browser.
