McAfee antivirus for iMac?

I am concerned about security since finding a Mandarin entry in my Apple Calendar! I would like to install BT's McAfee Antivirus for iMac for added protection. My concern is that it will preferentially use my solid state fusion drive capacity reducing the speed of other processes. Should I be concerned?

NEVER EVER install any antivirus, cleaning or any other type of third party maintenance app to Mac OS. If you keep Mac OS up-to-date that is all that is needed. In most cases if you do this Mac OS will run reliably for years.

These forums are riddled with posts from users that have installed some type of AV app thinking they are doing a good thing, in almost all cases the apps installed create many more problems than they solve.

MacAfee is on of the worst choices (Norton probably the worst)!

These are apps developed by PC houses that are really clueless

as to how MacOS (or any Unix for that matter) works. As a result,

they end up creating more harm than any possible thing the "protect"

you from.

FWIW, is your Apple calendar linked to any other calendars, such as

Google, Microsoft or some other online account? If so, those are

the likely culprits. If it is online, it can be altered by anyone who could

hack into one of those systems, although, putting bogus entries into a

calendar is a really lame hack.
