iMac shuts down only while connected to external HD

iMac 21.5 inch late 2013

Version 10.12.1

WD My Book Duo

The computer shuts down like 5-15 minutes after I walk away. I'm guessing it is because one of the devices are going into a sleep/wake phase.

The drive holds my iTunes library.

I have run first aid on all the drives.

Try running this program in your normal account , then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Reboot just means restart. Correct?

Either way I restarted and I am still getting the below error. I'll come back and let you guys know if removing the adware fixed the problem.

Thanks.

Launch Daemons:

[loaded] com.adobe.fpsaud.plist (2016-10-25) [Support]

[loaded] com.wdc.WDPrivilegedHelper.plist (2016-11-03) [Support] - /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.wdc.WDPrivilegedHelper: Executable not found!

Nov 18, 2016 2:28 PM in response to Eric Root

I tried that. I'll give it a few to see if that did the trick. I also clicked the [support] next to that issue and the first link was https://community.wd.com/t/error-in-raid-configuration/21298/38

On October 15th BJcreative added that I should also:

SYSTEM PREFERENCES - USERS & GROUPS - LOGIN ITEMS - UNCHECK WD DRIVE UTILITY

That fixed the porblem for me, had the issue on 2 of my 4TB WD MY BOOKS

So glad that apple helped me solve the problem, props to them! Hope this helps you guys!

Nov 19, 2016 2:22 PM in response to Eric Root

I removed the adware.

I uninstalled the below using the Developer's uninstall instructions.

[loaded] com.wdc.WDPrivilegedHelper.plist (2016-11-18) [Support] - /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.wdc.WDPrivilegedHelper: Executable not found!

I removed a Wester Digital App from the login items list under the accounts in system preferences.

But still crashes :-/

Nov 20, 2016 8:48 AM in response to Mikejc101185

Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferenes, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer or by using the developer’s uninstall instructions. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
