2016 MacBook Pro external display problems

I received my new MB Pro yesterday. I connected it to two different Samsung 34" SE790 displays using an Apple adapter...Tbolt2 to Tbolt3. Doesn't work, not even a teaser.

Its not an adapter problem. The same adapter works fine with an Apple thunderbolt display.

Its not a display problem. I've been using these displays for several months with my previous MB Pro purchased early 201t6.

It looks to me like this is an Apple problem.

Apple has created a huge market for dongles. If the dongles don't work, then what?

I spoke to a support person today and it was laughable. He was no help.

This is NOT the Apple I moved to 15 years ago.

- Your post is now in the MacBook Pro forum.

- Are you use the same cabe on the new Mac as used on the old Mac which worked with the monitor?

- Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

Ok so to be clear

EVERYONE who currently is using a external monitor that connects using

MHL

HDMI

Mini-DP

or DP(same physical size as a Thunderbolt 2)

will not be able to use that monitor on a new MacBook Pro (2016).

Brilliant Apple!

Thank you for stating this in front of your tech sheets and not burying it in... oh, lets say article HT207266. (sarcasm)

Someone please correct if I am wrong

There are:

HDMI display

Use a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter to connect to an HDMI display. In addition to HDMI, this adapter lets you connect a standard USB device and a USB-C charging cable to charge your MacBook Pro.

VGA display

Use a USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter to connect to a VGA display or projector. In addition to VGA, this adapter lets you connect a standard USB device and a USB-C charging cable to charge your MacBook Pro.

DisplayPort and mini DisplayPort

To connect to a DisplayPort display, you need a USB-C to DisplayPort cable or adapter. Amazon sells the Plugable USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter cable for $20, and it supports 4K video at 30Hz.

To connect a display with mini DisplayPort, you need an adapter like the Allsmartlife USB C Type to Mini DisplayPort/Mini DP Adapter Cable ($17 onAmazon).

I just got back from Apple Genius Bar. They ran diagnostics on my 2016 15" MBP w AMD 460 and found that there was a voltage problem, so I am returning the unit. Sadly. I love it. Great screen and keyboard and look and feel and just a bit faster than my 2015 model.

Symptoms all had to do with graphics:

a. I could not get the MBP to communicate reliably with a Dell P2415Q 4k monitor. My 2015 13" MBPr is rock solid with that monitor.

b. Adobe Lightroom would slow to a crawl in edit mode ("D" mode) when I turned on the discrete graphics in Lightroom. That could be related to the voltage issue OR could be an Adobe-Apple communication issue. Hoping we will find out some day.

I did all the standard diagnostics such as trying different cables, reset NVRAM.

So disappointed. Fantastic machine.
