No sent mailbox behavior

My iPhone automatically configured my gmail account. It left off a sent folder. I went to add it and there is no Sent Mailbox under Advanced>Mailbox Behaviors. I've deleted the whole account off my phone and readded it with no change. I tried to do a manual Gmail outgoing server with with log in etc but it won't let me change the primary!

Same issue on iPad. Luckily xomputer is fine, it seems to be an IOS problem. All sent mails are going onto gmail server and into my computer folder so far but are not visible from phone or tablet and there seems to be no work around.

Anyone else have this problem?

Yes I've restarted my device.

Is there a new setting on Gmail maybe I'm missing?

For anyone having this issue in the future, I found the solution.

Add your email address manually. Not through the Mail account suggestions that the Mail app will prompt you with (Gmail, AOL, Yahoo, Outlook, etc) Click the bottom "Other"

Add your email account (even if it was on that list before) manually. Both incoming and outgoing server information with user name and passwords. This was a last ditch hail mary after having spent over a year trying to find an answer have having every Tech Support person at Apple stumped. There must be a slight issue with how the Mail App auto uploads an account and what the account actually needs to function. This was an issue for me on iOS9,10 and now 11. Spanning 3 devices I own (6s, a 7 bought just last week, and a iPad Pro).

There isn't a single recent case of this happening that I can find... but I know people have had this issue randomly over the years. If no one else's solutions work... I hope this one helps someone. Year and a half!!! And the fix was right there! Doh! haha

Hello kateinabox,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are having issues with the Sent mailbox for your Gmail account not showing. First, if you have multiple email accounts on your iPhone, usually only the Inbox is shown for the each account. You may need to tap on the Gmail option at the bottom of the Mailboxes view in the Mail app to show all the mailboxes in the account, included the Sent mailbox. If Gmail is the only account on your iPhone, then try removing the Gmail account again in Settings > Mail and then restart your device as the shut down and start up process is important to keep the iOS software running properly. Never underestimate the power of a good restart. Then try adding your Gmail account again and test your issue.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

Thanks for replying and that additional info, it really helps! At this point, we would like you to reinstall iOS on your iPhone; this will help us isolate the situation further. Reinstalling iOS should not affect any of your data, but it is always a best practice to make sure you have a current backup in either iTunes or iCloud.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Once you have a current backup, follow the steps from the "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" section in this article:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on - Apple Support

These steps will reinstall iOS. Keep in mind that these steps were written for a different issue, but they will still help us isolate the situation further. Have a great day and thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
