iMac late 2012 SSD Upgrade

Hi.

I have iMac 13.1 (late 2012) 21.5 Inch, 2.7 GHz, Intel Core i5, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 512 MB... as you can see, very basic model.

Following OWC YouTube video I have opened my iMac and confirmed that it has free PCI connector on the Motherboard. Same one as you can see on the photo below...

According to OWC Website (and Support Team) neither SSD card on the market is compatible with the model of iMac I have. I would really like to keep original HDD 1TB and add 256 or 512 GB of flash storage to give my machine a new life. I couldn't find anywhere an information specific for this model. Does anyone knows if I kann simply plug in 6Gbps SSD card?

I would very appreciate useful links as well as direct answers.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If your 2012 iMac has a Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 port, why not simply add an external SSD in an external Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 enclosure like the ones OWC sells?

Your iMac will still be just as fast running from a Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 connected SSD.

Why go through all this nonsense with a clearly unsupported internal SSD installation?

OWC has the quicker, easier alternatives to your issue.

Good Luck!

According to OWC, some of the 2.7 GHz iMacs (13.1) come with the PCI connector.

"The initial production of the base model for the 21.5" iMac didn't come with a slot for the SSD. Later production models included the SSD slot, but there's no way to determine if the 2012 21.5" iMac with a 2.7GHz processor has the SSD slot without opening it up to see if it's available. If you have already opened the iMac up and it does have an SSD slot, this SSD is compatible."
