Can't import health data to new phone?

I recently had to restore my phone due to battery life issues, but the only thing I wanted to keep was my health data (specifically my apple watch activity data).

I exported data using the apple health app (it was an export.zip containing two files, export_cda.xml and export.xml) and restored my phone. Now with my new fresh ios restore, apple health will not allow me to import my previous health data. I have even bought and paid for two apps which dont work.

I believe the issue is: Apple exports health data as .xml files, but can only import .csv files. If so, thats stupid - because the only reason I exported was to move to my new phone. Is there anything I can do to get all my data back on my phone?

iPhone 6s, iOS 10.1.1

It is not possible, via the standard backup and restore process, to retain only Health and Activity data.

However, you may find the following third-party software of interest. It offers the ability to perform a selective restore that contains only Apple Watch, Health and Activity data:

Have you tried to restore the iPhone as a new device to get a working system installed, and then restore the data from the backup?

It is not possible, to restore the health data selectively using the standard software of the iPhone.

You can try to read the exported XML files with Xcode, but I see no way to add these data automatically to the Health.app on your iPhone.

Yes, I have tried to restore first, then back up, but for some reason my backup of ios is corrupted and my battery only lasts an hour, so I have to start fresh.

Is there anyway to convert XML files to CSV with Xcode? I have opened the files with Xcode, but dont know what im doing (im not a programmer, don't know anything about xcode 😝)

I have a third party app on my iphone that should import my health data, but it only reads CSV, not XML

Thanks for this Jonathan. The "decipher tool" app worked great, however it's a shame that I have to rely on a third party to transfer my personal health data. Really upset that Apple does not have the option to transfer your health data. You think they would now that with my Apple watch, we are in the "health tech revolution"

Hopefully as recording health data becomes more common, this will change.

I actually released an app back in early October ("Health Data Importer") that does exactly what you're asking for. It imports the XML file exported from Apple Health onto your new phone. I actually needed to do a fair amount of reverse-engineering to figure out how everything in the XML file should be read. 500 million+ (and counting) data points have been imported in aggregate by users, so I'm quite confident it would work for your needs. I know you posted this over a month ago and perhaps have moved on, but maybe someone else will find this useful.

Hi Dan

Thank you for sharing.

However, your app does not appear to do what the OP asked for:

Your app description suggests that it does not transfer all such data:

"Health Data Importer imports all Health data except Activity Summaries, Stand Hours, Exercise Time, and .."
