File Permissions - iCloud

I installed Sierra on my mid-2015 MacBook Pro. During installation, I agreed to set up iCloud, which I immediately regretted... I guess I'm old-school and like my files on my hard drive. I waited a couple of days until I had time and removed iCloud. My problem though is that a couple of folders now tell me I don't have permissions to open, copy or save the documents inside. I went to Get Info and the permissions didn't change... it still says I can read/write but clearly I can't. Most of the documents I can't open are TextEdit (.txt) files. How can I gain access to my documents again?

Hi ronjm.

If I understand your post correctly, you turned on iCloud drive but then turned it off and now you're unable to open documents that were moved to iCloud Drive. I'll be happy to help with this.

You can visit iCloud.com to access these files. To remove them from iCloud and store them locally, you'll need to set up iCloud again to access the documents stored there. Then you can store the documents locally on your Mac again. This article will tell you more:

Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive

Let us know if that resolves this issue for you.

Thank you for your response.

Actually, once I canceled out of iCloud, I did retrieve my files so that's not the issue. The issue seems related to the iCloud fiasco but it could be coincidental.

After looking at this now for another day, I think I can say that the permissions problem is affecting only my TextEdit .txt files... and it's affecting nearly every one.
