Why is iTunes not ripping CDs correctly?

iTunes is "thinking" it is ripping my entire CD but is not. I hit "Import CD" and the completion bell goes off almost simultaneously. I've tried restarting my computer and drive, deleting the files and trying again and nothing works. My external CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive has always worked before.

I'm using a 2015 MBP and my iTunes library is on an external drive.
