Unsent texts disappear

Before ios10 I could type a text and leave the app then go back to it and it would be there. Even if the recipients name wasn't entered yet, I could hit the icon to open a new txt and it would appear. Now when I go back to an unsent txt, it looks like the txt box automatically gets minimized to the bottom but it's nowhere to be found. Do others notice this? Are the unsent messages going somewhere that I don't know of? It's super annoying!

No, we don't know exactly what's causing the problem. It might be a bug in the operating system. It might be something else.

It is disappointing that this has not been taken seriously. Even if it is one or two users experiencing this issue (which it is not), I would expect an organisation like apple to take responsibility for an issue such as this. Please fix this bug.

Your expectations are unrealistic. Unless you contact Apple and let them help you work through troubleshooting, they're not even going to know you have a problem. Have you made an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store? Have you contacted Apple using the Contact Support link in the upper right corner of every page of these forums?

Same issue here. I compose a text, get interrupted, phone locks, two mins later I unlock my iPhone to find that my composed text has been vaporized. This is beyond frustrating. My spouse says that I take life too seriously. Cute, but does nothing to recapture my time and lost thoughts.

None of my previous iPhones never had this problem. (I have an iPhone 7 Plus for a year - worst year ever )

I have all the latest updates (11.1.1). Resetting the messages app or hard reset makes no difference.

This must be a design "feature". 😠 Nobody has found a solution?

I am experiencing this too on both my 6 and 7. I've asked around and this issue is not restricted to the 7.

My husband has this on his 5SE. Friends (3-4) I've spoken to, about this issue, have experienced this also.

I suggest trying harder to replicate or perhaps looking for the change in the code that was made to messages that causes this issue. It happens on my 6 every time I start a new text to a new recipient and leave the text to find and copy content and fairly often on my 7 (perhaps longer time to time out?). This is very frustrating as the quality of the software used to be so high.

Happens to me as well. I like to send my wife links to gifs I find while browsing the internet(mostly Reddit). I would copy an imgur link and put it in a text to her, but not send because I work very early and don’t want to wake her yet. When I return later, the unsent text is gone. This has never been in an issue in my 6 years of using various iPhones until now. It’s beyond frustrating!

If it was a design feature, everyone would experience it. I still can't replicate it. I know that's not a solution but it should help you stop looking for the answer in one of the wrong places.

Best of luck.

I have the same issue since I bought my Iphone 7. Its extremly aggravating to be composing a long text, either the screen times out because i am looking at info, was distracted or a call comes in , and we i come back my message is gone. I actually can see the text minimizing ( ie sliding down the screen) but i cant find it anywhere. Force closing the app doesn't do anything. The most reproducible event is when i start a new text, pick a contact that I haven't used in over a couple of weeks, and start typing. As soon as i get interrupted or someone calls, the text disappears and have to start over. What i have also noted is that If I go to the message app, and search for a thread ,and start typing a response, it never does it regardless of what i do or what happens. It always saves the text.

The difference is that I just described the way to reproduced it

Yes, you described the steps. No, I can't reproduce it.. A very, very, small number of people (two of you that I know of) seem to have this problem. I can suggest to you the same things I suggested to the other person. Restore from back up and test. Restore as new and test.

This just started happening to me (July 2017). Was there every an answer?

Now that we can text our elected officials, this is very frustrating. I've lost two letters that I've never been able to replicate.

I shouldn't have to stop and think "oh, maybe I should start this elsewhere and copy/paste because my phone is being a *********".

Fix this, Apple!!!

Greetings Jlprendy,

I see that before updating to iOS 10, you could type a text message, leave the app, and the unsent text message would still appear in the app. Now, you aren't seeing the text message that you typed. I completely understand. I want you to be able to still have the unsent message that you started.

It seems like your Messages app isn't responding like it should. So I would advise force closing the Messages app, and then reopen to see if you get the same result. This article will help you force quit an app: Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Let us know what happens. We're here to help.

Have a great day!
