Is it possible to run a Torrent app while the MacBook's lid closed?

Hi,

Got a MacBook 12" with the latest macOS (v10.12.1) installed, and I was wondering if it's possible to run a Torrent app on it while the lid is closed?

If there is no external display, then the computer will go to sleep when you close the lid.

Question regarding the torrent: are you trying to download something from a torrent site or distributing software to someone else? If so, what kind of software/apps?
