Try changing cables and go directly to your computer USB port!
;
List how your Ipod is performing as standalong?
Is it running OK and to include the battery charge etc???
You can have all kinds of problems if your battery is to low or failing??

Did you try changing your cables??
Then try another direct USB port to your computer(s)---

If your using Windows XP OS, make sure you have all the recent uptates;
If so you should be able to connect and establish communications with your IPOD!

Those are my suggestions with the little info you provide!
You can also go to Apple.com/support for additional help.

Hope this helps!!!!
