I understand you're having an issue adding your email account to the Mail app. Let's try and work together to resolve this.
First, I recommend going to the website to login to your Hotmail webmail to make sure the account credentials are active and working correctly.
Make sure you're able to login here:

If your account is working and logging in just fine, follow the steps in the following article to add the account to Mail on your Mac:
