Does anyone know a way of getting movies onto your ipod? My parents (who live in france) are thinking of gettin an ipod, and are trying to decide what size to get. They are thinking of the bigger one, but only if they would be able to download tv shows and movies (english tv shows) and then put them on the ipod and connect it to the tv to play them.
In itunes you can only buy tv shows thru the American itunes, which you can only get if you have a US billing addess...
Does anyone know a way around this?

I believe the plan for the Movies is to roll them out to other stores in 2007. However whether or even if the UK store gets them in 2007 will depend on the negotiations with the film distributors for the region. You can't get around the iTMS purchasing requirements. Unless you can show some form of residency you cannot buy from another country's store.

Sorry, but there is no way around it unless your parents have a legal residence in the US. The content owners will not allow Apple (or any other download store) to sell cross-border. As far as purchasing movies and TV shows is concerned, your folks will have to wait until such time as the content owners allow Apple to sell movies and TV shows (if that ever happens) in France.

There are, however, ways to transfer DVDs to an iPod. Since such transfer has been made illegal in the US, we can't get into details here, but if you search the Web for something like "iTunes DVD rip", you'll find a lot of information on how to accomplish it (your parents will of course have to determine whether it's legal in France or not; I'm not sure).
