I recently got a message from Kaspersky suggesting that Quicktime is a possible vulnerability

If I uninstall quicktime on windows can I still use vlc to decode movs on windows?

I have a MacBook Pro and upgraded to Lion. Kept getting non-Apple pop ups and the dreaded Yahoo search redirect.
I bought and ran bitDefender and all of the viruses it found were from QuickTime. It fixed them all and I'm good now. But I can't trust QuickTime.
Even Mac to Mac there's a virus problem. Although I can't recall where I downloaded it from, I'm pretty good at getting things from the best source - Apple in this case.
(I still erroneously use 'virus' where I should use 'malware'. I think the Firefly fan in me is fighting it...)
