I can use an iPhone and an iPad and have set my emails up on both, but I have just bought a MacBook Pro running on OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6
i have tried to set up my email accounts and none of them work. They just say login failed?
what am I doing wrong it only requires email address and password both of which have been inputted correctly but I cannot get it to work.

What does Connection Doctor reveal?
Mail>Window>Connection Doctor.
Click on any red dots to fix problems.
So , go to system preferences > internet accounts select iCloud , google or yahoo enter your web mail and correct password & try to login .

If you are going to seek help, why not upgrade to Sierra first so you have the latest OS?
HHow do. Do that you just assumed being new it would be on the latest OS?
Go to the App Store and see if you can download Sierra from the Featured tab.
Ok, emails were working fine... downloaded Sierra and now no emails and even after doing the connection doctor several times as well as deleting and redoing email account countless times no joy So now no email again.

Found the answer on another thread
SO simple too, I just had to create the account using the "other" and not via the "yahoo" option.
