I want to create a christmas list from contacts

Example:

Add "Christmas" to a card's Notes, and it will automatically be added to that Smart Group.

You can create a new contact group - or a new smart group.

This link discuss how to create a smart group, however smart groups doesn't sync to iOS devices, but regular groups do, so I'd suggest you create a new group called Christmas, and then in Contacts, you drag-n-drop the contacts you want to be in the group.
