Logic Pro X doesn't have the record button next to the play button on the top, when I open old projects from Logic Pro 9, but does when I open a new project. Why?

I've installed the new Logic Pro X, because Logic Pro 9 refuses to open after installing the new Sierra system. When I convert the old projects into the new Logic Pro X version, I'm not able to record new audio, because the record button is not there. Only the play and stop buttons, not even the forward and backward buttons (except when its in the middle of the project and it has the complete rewind button in place of the stop button.) However, when I open a new project, it has all buttons on the top available, and I can record audio...why is this?

couple of things to try...

1/ right click on the control bar and make sure the record control is checked.

2/ make sure you screen is large enough to display all icons.... reduce the size of the LCD display or using the above eliminate some of the other buttons/controls. click on the musical note in the LCD display and select beats/time instead of custom if that is selected.

3/ make sure you have a valid audio interface selected in preferences.
