Hey, Connor!

It's making me so depressed knowing my upcomming 4000 $ MacBook Pro won't support Sims 3 😟

I know an EA-representative said they were aware of the GPU-compatibility problem with the latest macs, and they blamed Origin. Therefore, they released a special version of Origin, just for Mac-users trying to run Sims 3.

Hopefully, this will work when I get my new Mac in late June – I'll keep you updated!

Here's the link to the special version: https://eaassets-a.akamaihd.net/Origin-Client-Download/origin/forum/34349/Origin .dmg

Happy simming ^^

Hello again, I just received my latest MacBook 15-inch 2016, as I mentioned earlier.

Sims 3 did not work at all, every time I tried to open the program, I got the message "An unexpected error has occured". I have tried to work myself around this bug, all from manuall super-patch updates, to editing game-files. I have also tried installing the game with not only Origin, but also CD, but both gave the same results. I am therefore sorry to tell that Sims 3 is utterly trash on the latest MacBook Pro (2.9GHz i7, Radeon 460).

Hello Simmers, 🙂

I got a MacBook Pro 15 Inch 512SSD, AND ----> Radeon Pro 455

For use Sims 3 Do this Steps:

Step 1: Install Parallel

1. Install windows 10 64 bit for Games Mode ( It will be a step when you are installing the windows )

2. Set VGA Option to Maximum GB From the Parallel Setting

3. Set Resolutions on " Best For Retina Displays " From the Parallel Setting

4. Set Mouse on " Optimize for games " From the Parallel Setting

5. Open Windows and Set the Resolution on " 2880x1800 "

Step 2: Set Resolution of your Mac Os on 1440x900 from the System Performance (Apple Logo)

Step 3: Install The Sims 3

1.Install Origin on Windows And Install The Sims 3

2.Have Latest Pack ( into future ) and Patch ( v1.69 )

3.Click Right on Sims 3 Shortcut In the desktop

4.Go to properties

5.Go to Compatibility

6.Turn on "Run this program in compatibility mode

7.Select " Windows 7 "

Step 4: Run The Sims 3

1.After this Step 1,2,3 Restart your MacBook

2.Open Parallel and Open The Sims 3

3.After The Game Opened go to "Option"

4.Select The Resolutions on " 2880x1800 (16:10) "

---------------------------------------------------------

Note (Important) :

1)I'm Not A Parallel Advisor or etc I'm Just a Sims Gamer

2)The Resolutions Must Be correct otherwise your game will be LAG

3) It is just for MacBook Pro 15 inch With 450,455,460 VGA

4)The UI in the game will be Small But It isn't very bad at least about me

5)Maybe it will work On BootCamp " I don't know more "

---------------------------------------------------------

The resolutions Notes :

Mac Os: 1440x900

Windows 10: 2880x1800

The Sims 3 : 2880x1800 (16:10)

Good Luck And Enjoy 🙂

Hey SarahRose07,

I understand you're curious about compatibility of a game. I'd be happy to help with that.

The best way you can find out if a game is compatible with a device is to check the device specs. Almost every game has a system requirements sheet published somewhere by the game developer. For example, searching on Google for "Sims 3 system requirements" brought me to their website, where they have this section published with Mac-users in mind:

FOR MAC OS X
  • Mac OS X 10.5.7 Leopard or higher
  • Intel Core Duo Processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • ATI X1600 or Nvidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100.
  • At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games
  • This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems, or the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards.

System Requirements - The Game - Community - The Sims 3

You can take the information provided in the excerpted section and compare it against the technical specifications we've released about the new MacBook Pro models to ensure it meets the system requirements:

Hey Sarah Rose,

I don't know the exact answer to this, however I have just received my new 2016 15 inch MacBook Pro, with 2.9ghz processor, and radeon 460 pro graphics and the sims 3 won't work!!! I upgraded from my 2012 MacBook Air which it did work on, however was rather slow. Im guessing if this model doesn't work, than I would be very surprised (and rather annoyed) if the 13 inch with touch bar works as it is also half the price.

Thanks

Hey Connor,

I am really sorry to hear that the Sims 3 won't work on your MacBook Pro 15 inch. I got my 13 inch Christmas Day and I have downloaded Sims 3 with expansion packs and so far it's working great! Had no issues, no freezing and works quite fast, hoping it stays like this! Really sorry to hear yours didn't work maybe it's the dedicated graphics that Sims doesn't like. Hope you are able to find a way to fix your issue 🙂
