Pages AutoCorrect correcting words mid-typing

I've started having a strange glitch in Pages. When I'm typing and I haven't finished a long word (more than 6+ letters), Pages seems to think I've spelt the word incorrectly so guesses the word and puts in the missing letters. Admittedly, it's pretty good, because it almost always guesses the word I'm typing, but because I'm still typing I also add those missing letters in and then end up with a misspelt word.

I can't work out why it is happening, it never used to be an issue. Is there anyway to fix this?

Hi Zephyyr. I have the same issue. Strangest thing. I am on a new MacBookPro (late 2016) and Sierra. In Pages, while typing, I see the autocorrect get activated but when I look back at the word it corrected it has inserted extra or incorrect letters. Anyone else have this issue? Resolutions? As an example, as I type "including" I end up with "includeng" as though it is trying to anticipate include so it changes the i of includi to e and then catches the "ng" Of course, I can turn off the autocorrect but why do that? I want my misspellings to be corrected.

"Who on Earth coded this and what did they use for a dictionary?"

My guess is that the dictionary is fine, barring arguments over whether there's a 'u' in neighbourhood, or dyspepsia over the proper spelling of organisation (or spelt), and the issue is more over timing and knowing when to quit (and how to clean up any mess you've made in scraping the pot), more than the contents of the dictionary itself.

I have had ridiculous non-English (actually non any language) suggestions in both OSX and iOS.

Also it frequently jumps to quite different suggestions when it is often a mere switch of two letters, particularly the kind you get by hitting adjacent letters on the keyboard.

The object is to assist not hinder the user and all we get is more errors, not less.

Like much of Apple's latest "improvements" this is a degradation marketed as improvement.

Hi Peter,

Still, I doubt there's anything amiss with the contents of the dictionary, but there are buckets of sludge to be hauled out of the coding that's in charge of reading that dictionary and making corrections to the text. Fortunately for me, I can (like you) get along quite well, thank you, without auto(de)correct, and have turned it off (in OS X).
