Pages AutoCorrect correcting words mid-typing

I've had the same issue. You would think they would just code it to wait for you to finish typing the word before autocorrecting.

Hi Zephyyr. I have the same issue. Strangest thing. I am on a new MacBookPro (late 2016) and Sierra. In Pages, while typing, I see the autocorrect get activated but when I look back at the word it corrected it has inserted extra or incorrect letters. Anyone else have this issue? Resolutions? As an example, as I type "including" I end up with "includeng" as though it is trying to anticipate include so it changes the i of includi to e and then catches the "ng" Of course, I can turn off the autocorrect but why do that? I want my misspellings to be corrected.

You need to decide which is worse:

having to manually correct the misspellings flagged by "check spelling while I type" or

having to manually correct the misspellings created by 'auto(de)correct.'

Meantime, file a bug report via the Provide Pages Feedback item in the Pages menu in Pages.

I find the first far, Far, FAR worse than the second.

My guess is that the dictionary is fine, barring arguments over whether there's a 'u' in neighbourhood, or dyspepsia over the proper spelling of organisation (or spelt), and the issue is more over timing and knowing when to quit (and how to clean up any mess you've made in scraping the pot), more than the contents of the dictionary itself.

I have had ridiculous non-English (actually non any language) suggestions in both OSX and iOS.

Also it frequently jumps to quite different suggestions when it is often a mere switch of two letters, particularly the kind you get by hitting adjacent letters on the keyboard.

The object is to assist not hinder the user and all we get is more errors, not less.

Like much of Apple's latest "improvements" this is a degradation marketed as improvement.

Still, I doubt there's anything amiss with the contents of the dictionary, but there are buckets of sludge to be hauled out of the coding that's in charge of reading that dictionary and making corrections to the text. Fortunately for me, I can (like you) get along quite well, thank you, without auto(de)correct, and have turned it off (in OS X).

One that forgets where it is in the process, neglects to clean up when it changes its mind regarding what word is intended, and/or exits without wiping the counter after preparing another order of hash.

Leave Check Spelling While Typing checked to produce red squigles under words not in the spelling dictionary.

Turn off Automatically Correct Spelling. The settings are toggled by selecting the menu items seen here:

Although more than a solution it's just removing the feature altogether. Hopefully Apple will address this soon.

The fact that it substitutes rubbish nonsense instead of valid words suggests there is a lot of uncleaned cruft in the Dictionary.

What algorithm would concoct words?

I've been having these issues for YEARS. I'm so glad others are beginning to have them as well, so maybe Apple will see they have an issue.
