A little more info...
The disc fails after it shows the time remaining.
Usually around the 2nd or 3rd song...
Never had this problem before the last update (of course)

Oh. God. I was just about to post a new topic until I saw this discussion.

I am experiencing the exact same problem. Though only my error code is 4200 instead of 4310.

Same with you, I have never experienced this problem until the new update too.

Also, does your problem also include the "Canceling disc burn ... may take a minute or two" message?

hmmmm. i'm assuming she's a home-built/custom-built girl, given the absense of manufacturers information in the diagnostics.

so i tried checking the Sony web pages for the CRX140E (and the CRX140E/ch2), but couldn't find any newer firmware there. (that might have been just me though ... i find it a bit difficult navigating around that Sony site.)

i guess we should try checking to see if the drive is feeling well in general. for both the CRX140E and the CRX140E/ch2, Sony provides links to their diagnostics utility:

Sony DriveCheck Diagnostic Tool

does that turn up anything amiss with the drive?

I really don't think it was coincidence that only after the iTunes update it started to fail (only with iTunes). Like I said, I've been burning CD's with iTunes for years without any problems and I have always had it set for "Write at maximum speed possible" or whatever.. Oh well now that I've wasted around five CD-Rs I guess it wouldn't hurt to see if lowering the write speed will help as it did with a few other people... I'm setting it to 8x. I'll let you know it that worked for me.

Dec 19, 2006 6:02 AM in response to b noir

Okay lowering the write speed worked for me. I lowered it to 6x (just to be safe). I'll raise it to 8x next time... It looks as though with the new iTunes update their preferences are not very stable. I can see why the error would be caused if iTunes tries to push the drive to fast. I think this is the case here. I knew I should have just lowered the speed after the first time it failed, I just wanted to see if anyone here KNEW if that would work or knew what the problem was. So for future reference EVERONE: CHECK THE MAXIMUM WRITE SPEED FOR YOUR DRIVE AND SET THE PREFERENCES IN ITUNES TO ONE LOWER. IN MY CASE, 8x max = 6x. I assume 8x will work and I will try that the next time I burn but just for trouble shooting purposes try one speed level lower. I am glad this worked for me but I still saw in other threads that lowering the write speed didn't work for some people :/ and thank you for all of your time. b noir, sorry you couldn't help me :/ Well at least we know for sure that this is a necessary trouble shooting step to try early on, in the future. I was only burning this disc too back-up non-protected versions of protected songs I bought from iTunes to a disc so I actually own the tracks and can share one of them to a friend that lives in Germany. I am sending a track to her to promote the band because I'm sure once she hears it she'll enjoy them and buy their album (if she can, it can be hard in Germany to obtain some music). But I needed the track to be unprotected so I didn't have to authorize it to another computer. ANYWAYS, All is well now! ๐Ÿ˜€

๐Ÿ™‚ excellent news findalefinnie. glad you got things working again, and many thanks for reporting back with your resolution. will have to try the lower-burning-speed workaround with other 4310s on the 7.0.x versions.

(actually, that used to work for a few 4310s back in the itunes 4.9 days but i'd completely forgotten about that workaround ... sorry about that.)

many thanks for the screenshot of the Sony diagnostics, too. that's a nice bit of background info.

Once again, no prob. I enjoy helping people with their problems because it's nice to have a group of people behind me at my time of need as well ๐Ÿ˜€ So anything to help ๐Ÿ˜€

P.S. I've seen some of your posts, Keep up the good work! ๐Ÿ˜€
I'm a pretty new member here and you were one of the people who I've taking notice too. A nice group of people here and I'm glad to be a part of it. ๐Ÿ˜€

Hello All,

I am new to this forum. I having the same issue in my Sony VAIO notebook. I had tried with both reducing the burning speed and also tampering the config file as suggested by apple for the Sony CD-RW/DVD CRX830E. Nothing works for me.
My CD drive is not Snoy though but I just tried it for the heck of it.

Here are my configurations:

1. OS: XP Home SP 2
2. iTune 7.0
3. DVD/CDRW drive : Matshita UJDA745 DVD/CDRW with speed adjusted to 6X.
4. I did install the automatic updates from the MS.

I would appreciate if someone can let me know any temporary solution to burn disc through ITUNE with the above config.

Rgds
