"Jam session not available"

Hi, I am trying to set up a GarageBand jam session between my iPad Mini 1st gen. and iPhone SE. However, when I create a session on one device, I can't join it. Only thing that happens is the notification saying "jam session not available" and a notification on second device saying that the other device has disconnected.

iPad Mini runs iOS 9.3.5 and iPhone SE runs iOS 10.1.1. Both run the same GarageBand version - 2.1.2

I would totally understand lack of compatibility between those two devices, but SOMETIMES (if I reboot both devices), I manage to get it to work (but still only when iPhone is a host). So, what does it depend on? What can I do in order to make it work?

I have already tried turning AirDrop/Bluetooth/WiFi on and off, in different order and combinations, also tried to set up my music projects to be matching each other, but none of those solutions work.

Best,

Jakub

Good evening James2523,

Thanks for your question. If you are having trouble getting your iPad Mini and iPhone SE to jam together, take a look at the resources below for this feature in GarageBand for iOS.

First, make sure the iOS software is updated on both of your devices:

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

GarageBand for iOS (iPad): Jam with other GarageBand users

To minimize the possibility of dropouts or other network issues, all members should use the same type of network connection (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth). To do so, the leader and all members should make sure the preferred network type is enabled on their device, and disable the other network type, before opening the jam session controls to join the jam session. If Wi-Fi is the preferred network type, the bandleader and members should click Cancel when the “Would you like to turn on Bluetooth?” alert appears.
