iMac 20" 2.66GHZ 2GB 320GB Model No.:A1224 start problem

Hi there,

I have a iMac 20" 2.66GHZ 2GB 320GB Model No.:A1224. When I power it it cannot start and it is giving me strange screens. I believe it has something to do with graphics card but I am not sure. Any suggestions?

The most important thing right now is how to get some of my data off the hard disk. Can I somehow safe boot and copy my data? Can I connect another mac and get them ? Worst case scenario, can I open the mac and get the hard disk and connect it to other mac and get the data like this ?

Secondary thing, can I somehow repair fix this problem myself? I got 2-3 screen photos if that helps

Thank you,

Any help suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Yes your GPU has likely failed. If you have been using Time Machine to backup, then all your data is already available to you. If you don't have a backup (very shortsighted and IMHO foolish!) you can get it by:

A) If you have another Mac available to you, use Target Disk Mode

B) If you don't have another Mac available to you, then remove the HD from the computer, install it in an enclosure and then connect to your new(er) Mac.
