Thank you Eric. Your approach to resetting Safari has increased the speed of my system and removed an intermittent adware problem. Thanks again it was a perfect solution to my problem. MacBook Pro (15 inch, late 2013) running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.1, Safari version 11.0.1.
Safari 10
Reset Safari menu option is no more available.
Browsing history can be removed.
Try clicking the “Clear History..“ button
Thanks, that clears out some stuff but not everything like in previous versions.
Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies. Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.
Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

Thanks Eric for your answer, I more or less know how to do this, however I am wondering/missing where the one Clear History button solution has gone. This method is pretty cumbersome.
Apple changes its products, and owes us no explanation. Since this is a user-to-user support community, none of us know the reasons behind Apple's Safari renovations that all too frequently, defy reason and user functionality.
Sure, logical
Does not do the same as 'Reste Safari'. It does not clear everything.
Try Safari/History/Clear History.
As said above, it does not remove everything. It does not do the same as 'Reste Safari'.
Just click on restore defaults in your screen shot . if you have done any manual changes in the settings , it will be changed to factory default .pretty sure 🙂
Sure it would, but it would not reset Safari browser history, cookies, etc. like in the old 'Reste Safari' button/
