Ipad Air2 caught on fire

Contact Apple, directly, again at the 1-800- MYAPPLE contact number.

Ask for support and calmly explain what happened to iPad to the first Apple employee you talk to.

I would think an iPad that caught on fire is considered accidental damaged.

If no joy from the first Apple employee you talk to, then calmly climb/ask for the next higher level telephone support employee until you get someone who will act favorably on your behalf, as an Apple customer, who still has AppleCare left on this iPad Air 2.

Keep at this until you reach an Apple employee that will compensate you for the defective device or offers a new replacement iPad Air 2.

You have a year 1 warranty in almost all countries (so check your local consumer laws for electronics), so Apple are making stuff up if they claim this is either normal or not their problem. Perhaps this is a communication error, whatever the case you should contact support & request a repair/ replacement as others have detailed.

It is possible that a dropped device or faulty/ fake charger can cause damage to a lithium battery (which has a lot of energy contained within) so don't be surprised if they say it is your fault if it has signs of damage or if you used a non-Apple charger. Just be honest & double check your son didn't drop it (accidents happen & sometimes kids can be scared to own up).

Apple are normally reasonable - head to an Apple store if possible. A face to face can sometimes help with misunderstandings.

Fire coming out of devices is not something Apple should take lightly.

I was an iPad 1 early adopter and my 1st iPad 1 overheated very badly to point of putting a hairline crack in the screen and the back aluminum panel and the charging/transformer block had visible char marks on them.

I had taken out AppleCare+ and got a brand new sealed in original box iPad.

I still have that replacement iPad 1 and it is still working great!

If you have an Apple Store nearby, you might take it there. Otherwise, there is not much you can do but purchase a new one and get Apple care to cover it for accidental damage.

I would think they would be VERY interested in obtaining that iPad. I'd call back and ask to speak to a supervisor. Fire is not a normal condition.
