How to install an SSD into a 2008 Mac Pro (and what kind)

I want to put an SSD into my 2008 Mac pro.

What kind of SSD do I need to get?

I've heard some people use an adapter and use a laptop ssd.

Just wondering what the best way to go about this is.

Thanks!

Just get a standard 2 1/2 inch SSD.

Use an adapter like one of these to mount the SSD in a sled.

Do not pay for a superfast SSD since the SATA bus on a silver-toper Mac Pro is only SATA II (3GB/sec).

You can also get PCIe cards that will mount a 2 1/2 inch SSD and use the full speed of the SATA II SSDs

Fastest is to get a blade SSD that mounts on a PCIe card

Any 2.5" SATA SSD will work. You will need an adapter for the drive sled which you can get along with the SSD from OWC. You can use any SSD that supports the 3G or 3.0 Gbps bus. You could use the 6G models but you will gain no benefit from them because your computer doesn't support that speed. OWC can provide you with lots of information, tutorials, etc. I use and recommend them.
