Processing Former Appleworks Files in Sierra

I have an iMac running 10.6.8. I use Appleworks and have many, many word processing, spreadsheet, and drawing files stored in .cwk format.

I just bought a MacBook Pro running Sierra. It came with its Numbers and Pages applications.

I had been led to understand that these applications could work with old Appleworks files, but they will not read my .cwk files.

Is there some preliminary conversion I need to do to my old files so that they can be processed on my MacBook?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions -

Yes, they are now. What doesn't translate though, is individual vector objects, so all you get is the complete drawing with no way to separate its components to work on them.

Hi Allan -

Thank you, thank you.

Roger Wilmut's essay is most informative.

I've downloaded LibreOffice into my MacBook and have already opened a word file with photos and a spreadsheet with no problems. I'm looking forward to learning about all its features.

Thanks again -
