iPhone 7 plus: People can't hear me

I have a new iPhone 7, but people complain they can't hear me when making a call while I can hear them perfectly. Any suggestions how to fix this? Many thanks.

Hi

I had this problem, and although some people say it's the Noise Cancellation setting (General - Accessibility - Hearing), which did make a small difference, I found what was really causing the problem on my phone.

I have a case where the front of the phone is covered by a flap, and I was folding the flap back when receiving and making calls. If I stopped folding the flap right back and just held it open, the call quality improved immediately.

I hope that helps.

Do remember that all the recent models really have 3 microphones altogether. The design is supposed to improve sound quality by a) getting multiple samples of your voice and b) cancelling as much of the background noise as possible. Then, we stick the devices in some form of shell, case or covering which can interfere with what each mic hears or more critically, the balance between them. The sound filtering and noise cancelling code gets bigly confused and quality goes down the drain.

I would agree with this except that I tried without a case and still had these problems :-(

I got another replacement phone and it happened LESS often but it's still happening pretty often (just from every phone call to every 6ish phone call).

I dunno whether there's a bad batch of microphones or it's a software issue but I hope someone figures it out soon.

Sounds silly, but make sure you have peeled off all protective materials on the phone.

If that and a Force-Restart don't help (on the i7, hold down Volume Down and Sleep buttons till screen goes blank and an Apple logo pops up, then release), the mics may be bad; take it to an Apple Store for assessment. You do have a one-year warranty.
