Upgrade from Mavericks to Sierra with OS X Server 3

Hello guys,

I am trying to upgrade Mac Pro server which is currently running on Mavericks with OS X Server app 3.2.2

I upgraded to ElCapitan and downloaded server app 5.2 but now when I try to open server app, I get below message.

This version of Server does not support upgrading the Server data on this volume. To upgrade your Server data, you will need to install an older version of Server and OS X.

Possible solution could be to download version 4 on El Capitan or Yosemite however it is simply impossible to download it from app store or google.

Any help on above would be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Hello,

I think you can try install OS X Server 3.2.2, make backup with Bender-tools (it's free) and Time Machine, drop databases and upgrade it again. After it you're can try restore from backup all services.

Bender will create backup of Open Directory and another services.

Or you can try use second mac like a mirror of Open Directory, but you need to make backup of profile manager and other services.

Thanks Morgan, I actually called APPLE enterprise team and they suggested below solution which worked.

Updated to Yosemite and tried to download server version 5.2 which came up with message stating it's not compatible and can only download version 5.0.15 which it did. Data from 3.2.2 migrated swiftly to 5.0.15 and all went smooth.

I am going to now update to sierra and download server app 5.2 which should be quite straight forward to migrate as it's running now on 5.0.15.

Thought to share this here thinking it might be useful for someone struggling same as me.
