AppOM eating memory badly

There's this AppOM file that I can watch in Activity Monitor eat away at my memory till my iMac is crawling. I can force+quit the service and it works ok for awhile, but within minutes this service is back running & eating memory till my system is crawling again. Does anyone know what this file is for? Or associated with? Or how to permanently remove it? I can't find anything online about it so I'm really puzzled & frazzled. Thanks everyone!
