"The installer payload failed signature check?"

Product: MacBook Pro 13-inch, mid 2012
Specs:

- Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

- Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

- Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 384 MB

- Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

I keep getting the error message "The installer payload failed signature check" whenever I try updating to macOS Sierra. The message pops up a minute or so after initiating the install. I recently had my MacBook Pro repaired at a local repair shop and so my OS was reverted back to what was originally installed. Before having it repaired I was running Sierra just fine. I've tried using the ntpdate -u time.apple.com Terminal prompt but whenever I enter it I get the error "Can't adjust the time of day: Operation not permitted." I've also tried reinstalling OS X Lion but nothing changed. Still get the same error message. Any help would be appreciated!

The error you are encountering is due to the fact your Mac cannot contact Apple's servers.

Bring it back to them and tell them to fix it. Hopefully that "local repair shop" was an Authorized Apple repair facility. If it was not, Contact Support to find one. Never let anyone other than Apple repair an Apple product.
