Connecting Apple Watch to iPad

Why is it that i can not connect my apple watch to my ipad?

I no longer have an iphone and instead of purchasing a new one, I decided on a ipad mini with data from a cellular carrier. I primarily used my iPhone 6 plus mainly just to stream video because of the bigger screen, so hence ipad mini bigger screen, still get my imessages, browse Internet if needed and so on. But quickly found out i could not sync my apple watch to the ipad to get my imessages and emails.

Does anyone know if Apple has any intentions on adding this functionality to it's ipads?

iPad Mini, iOS 10.0.2

The short answers is because it's not supported. As to why it's not supported you would have to ask Apple.

Nobody will know until if/when Apple announce something. If you want to try leaving feedback to Apple about it : http://www.apple.com/feedback/

iPads and iPod Touches do not have any support for the Apple Watch. Only the iPhone 5 and later iPhones.

That is why I purchased a Pebble Time watch over a year, ago.

The Pebble watch can sync with all iDevices running iOS 8 or later all the way back to to iPad 3, iPhone 4s and iPod Touch 5th generation.
