I have the application on my iPhone 5 and iPad mini 4. Today I updated it on my iPhone 5 via App Store but I can't update it on my iPad mini 4. I just see the open button.
I tried to reboot my iPad but it does not help.
Is there any way how I can update the app on my iPad exсept delete the app and install it again?
iOS version is 10.1.1 on both devices and same Apple ID.

I know this thread is bit old, but I am having the same problem with my latest release of the application(Zipper - File Manager/Transfer). The latest version is showing as "Open" instead of "Update" on the app store.

Yes, I just tried going into the "Updates" tab and it is now showing as "update" properly.
But I am concerned that my users may not always go to the "update" tab. Anyway this helped in my case and I need to have a communication to my users who are having trouble in updating the new version.

If the app is not a universal app then it's possible that only the iPhone version is out. I have some apps that are universal so they update on my iPod and iPad at the same time, I have others that are not and are two separate apps.
So check out the specs for the app to see if its specific to a single device or if it's universal.
Another thing to do is to force quit the app store (double tap the home button and flick the preview up and off the screen to close the app...single tap the home button or home page to exit the mode.) then reopen it and try again. I know the app store was a bit difficult to work with last night and maybe that's cleared up by now.
