Why there is a language switch lag?

Hi,

I never experienced this issue with two previous macbooks, but with this one (new, fresh upgrade from macOS Capitan to Sierra) I got a very weird issue - when I switch language the icon changes but I continue typing in a previous language. The same happens when I change it back to the previous one.

Please note, I use CMD + Space to change the input source and it worked perfectly well for me last years.

Do I miss some important setting? or is a known issue? I can see a similar behavior described in several questions on stackoverflow but can't see any solution to this.

Thank you!

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

DO you have SIRI on? If so, try turning it off and restarting.

Thanks for that additional info!

Not so smart of Apple to make Command + Space the default shortcut for Siri. A totally new install of Sierra will work OK, because keyboard switching has changed to Control + Space. But many users change it back to the Command + Space they are used to from the past, and Command + Space for keyboard switching can easily be carried over into Sierra via the upgrade process.

Not to mention that Command + Space is also the default shortcut for Spotlight.
