New MBP w/TouchBar. Enrolled 1 finger with TouchID which worked for a day to unlock. Then it disappeared as an option to unlock.
Next in System Prefs I disabled all TouchID options and then slept the Mac. Woke it up, entered password, then went to re-enable TouchID. This errors out with:
"The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.Biometrics error 1.)
Did my TouchID die?
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS Sierra (10.12.1)
One more response to confirm:
deleting the fingerprints, resetting them, and unchecking and rechecking the "Use Touch Id to unlock your Mac" option, under Touch Id, got it working again.
I also had the same issue for a couple days. After reading this thread, I deleted all my existing fingerprints and created new ones and now my Touch ID works again!
I recommend deleting the existing fingerprints and creating new ones!
I struggled with this issue for days! But then when I delete all existing fingerprints and created new ones again, it worked perfectly!
This is unacceptable! This is not a fix. This is a tedious, time consuming work around for an Apple bug! An Apple lack of quality control because we don't make them fix it because we are too willing to take the time to remove all of our fingerprints and re-enter them! When is this going to be fixed the right way?
I have this problem too, and I did this to solve it. However, after one day, problem came again, and I can't add my fingerprint this time by deleting it first!
We might see this error message (com.apple.Biometrics error 1.) following a changes in setting in Touch ID system preferences. In order to fix it, remove all the saved fingerprints and a new one.
This should work.
Had the same issue, where it wasn't registering that my 15" MacBook had the TouchID function, but after following the steps of deleting the first one that was setup, fixed the issue.

I have deleted my current id and created a new one and now it works again

Just to clarify, deleting and recreating the fingerprint in Touch ID fixed the problem for me.
