This is because my friends and family love sending large pictures videos frequently and it ends up taking up a lot of space on my devices.
Is there a way to do this with macOS?

The simple answer is No.
You can of course Delete conversations that are on Show in the app from the File Menu and the keystrokes listed.
You can choose not to Save On Close n the Preferences > General Section.

Go to preferences, mailbox behavior and pick when to auto delete messages (e.g. after one month, etc.)
You're talking about email messages within the Mail app. I'm talking about messages within the Messages app.
