suddenly apple tv has sound but no tv picture

Just purchased Apple-TV to mirror my computer wirelessly. Things seemed fine for two days, viewing video files and others as a mirror image of my computer. Today, without having made any alterations as far as I know, all I get with AirPlay/Apple TV is sound-no picture. Changed out the cable with a new gold tipped item. No change, still getting sound and a black screen.

Defective Apple-TV or what might I have done to mess-up my connection?

Can you help?

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

  1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
  2. Check that both devices are on the same network (System Preferences > Network, on the Mac and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
  3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
  4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
  5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
  6. Restart your computer.

If you are still having problems, try turning off Bluetooth if it's enabled, also try using 802.11n for wifi if you are currently using either 802.11b or 802.11g. You might also try removing any other software related to screen sharing or streaming to remote displays that you might have installed at some time.

Winston,

Thanks for responding. What I did do is:

shut down my computer

shut down my TV

shut down my internet/network system/Wi-Fi

for 2 hours

and

disconnected my Apple-TV, including power cord (for 2-days)

Then: Re-powered and connected my Apple-TV cord.

It all worked. Don't understand it but it's now working.

I'm keeping your instructions in case it goes crazy again. Thanks for caring enough to help me.

Haven't tried anything with any content providers yet.

Just set it up as a wireless connection to image my computer to the TV screen. (Two days ago. Mirrored my computer fine, videos played, files opened, edited, etc.)

Today, all I get "mirrored" from my computer is the video sound. No video. No desktop. Nothing but a black screen.

The video files on my computer AND my entire desktop. Nothing shows-up on the TV in-spite of the AirPlay/Apple-TV being checked for mirroring my desktop to the TV.

I get sound but have lost my image/video/desktop that was projected on the TV screen before today. Get sound but only black screen.

Nothing visual at all. It's not just a "video" loss. It's an everything image loss.
