Disassembling the optical drive door in a Mac Pro

Hello,

I'm trying to remove the optical drive door in a Mac Pro 2008 for further inspection. The upper door no longer closes without manual intervention. I already searched the web and tried all sorts of solutions, like cleaning and loosening the Philips screw on the right side, but nothing works.

I cannot figure out how to remove the optical drive door mechanism. There is only one Philips screw, which I removed, but something else holds the unit in place, perhaps somewhere in the back. Here is a picture of what I'm trying to remove. I cannot find out how to remove it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I finally fixed the door mechanism. To cut a long story short, below are a few pictures that should help to understand what needs to be done.

In order to remove the door assembly, it is necessary to remove 5 screws:

In order to remove and reassemble the inner part, it is necessary to keep the blinds in place. Be patient, it seems to be stuck and wedged at first but it can be removed without applying force. You don't want to break it.

Below are two picture that show the other side:

Be sure to align the blinds properly before screwing it together.

Below shows the reason why the door assembly won't come out of the case.

After careful cleaning the doors open and close again like new.

Good luck!
