The Touch Bar on my new 2016 15" MacBook pro worked the first day only and now does not work. However, if you touch it, whatever is there will do what it is sup[posed to do. For instance, I often have 5 tabs open Safari. I cannot see the tabs on the touch bar but if I touch the touch bar, it will switch to that tab.
Anyone else having the same problem?

I have a similar issue, however, my touchbar only began to have issues after I installed windows 10 via Bootcamp. My touch bar will function as multimedia keys in windows without any issues, but when I load into mac os it ceases to function along with my touch id.
Unfortunately I have not found a permanent solution yet. It normally will only happen to me after logging out of Windows 10 and into Mac OS.
My temporary solution is to log into Mac OS, shut down, and log directly back into Mac OS. This usually will work for me.
I have the 13" and mine does the same thing in imessaging. The only way I have found to clear it is to log out or restart. If I go to another program and back the touchbar reappears but when i hit the emoji button it goes black again. However, I can go to imail and click the emoji button and it works as expected.
Same problem here. (Touch bar goes blank when I'm in iMessage and tap the emojis button.) First time I've seen this happen. I bought my MacBook Pro in December 2016; no problems with the touch bar until now.
Try the following guide:
- Launch Terminal from Spotlight Search
- Enter following commands in the Terminal; pkill "Touch Bar agent"
- Now hit the Enter key and to Quit to Refresh touch bar.

Yes, I know. I work in Apple retail and have a genius bar appointment for tomorrow. I was trying to see if any one else was having this problem. One customer that I know of already returned his machine for a new one.
Did you reboot and it persisted? I have seen the TB acting weird at some point but a reboot cleared it out. If not call Apple Care.
Did you get it fixed? I'm having this problem now, too, after having run Boot Camp.
I purchased mine a week before you, just started doing the imessaging thing today-touch bar goes blank and can't get it to pop up again.
I kinda wish mine would not work. This is the most annoying feature ever
I should add that rebooting the machine restores functionality. So it's more of an irritant than a major problem at this point.
Mine does the same when messaging. MacBookPro13 in.
