MSA Technosoft

My girlfriend uses a white Macbook. The OS is probably out of date due to the age of the computer.

She received a pop up message that her computer had been hacked and a phone number to call.

When she called, she was told that the company essentially that this was a known issue, that the offending program needed to be removed, and that the company had been hired by Apple to provide support for this type of incident.

After she paid $50 by Pay-Pal, they removed what I presume was a trojan.

The PalPal receipt states the recipient was MSA Technosoft LLP.

I am pretty sure I know what is going on here, but I want to confirm it.

-Has MSA Technosoft been in any way retained by Apple to provide support services?

-Is this one of those trojans that hijack the user's computer and then you basically have to pay a ransom to get it removed?

-It would be great if an Apple mod would respond to this with a definitive answer about whether or not MSA Technosoft has been retained by Apple.
