Copying diagnostic information — why?

The Privacy setting I was referring to is on the phone, sorry for the confusion. As far as the setting in iTunes for the Mac, someone may come here, but I know there are a number of similar settings for preferences. I've posted a snip for the Windows area.

Well, I'm not a Mac user, but I'll give it a stab. You are prompted about sending diagnostics when you activate your device, and it appears that you have your set not to. I know that you can go into Settings>Privacy>Analytics and there are settings there. I have my phone not to send automatically, but I cannot remember another setting for it. I know that when you sync, it will download and clear your diagnostics from the phone, but if you check in the iTunes settings, there is a check mark for sending them. For the Windows iTunes, you go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and you will see the checkbox. I would look to see if there is a similar setting for iTunes on the Mac.

I disabled the Settings/Privacy/Analytics/Share iPhone Analytics and iTunes still spends several minutes "Copying diagnostic information". There is no setting in iTunes for OS X 12.6.0.100 that I can find to disable that mentions analytics or sending usage data to Apple.

From what I understand, if you have it set to not send the diagnostics, it will still copy the error files to iTunes, but does nothing but save them. They can be used by Apple if you contact support and they can ask you to send them or view them then. Nothing is sent from the computer unless you send it. They are just copied and archived.
