Emergency Bypass - Doesn't Work With Contact's Email

I just began using "Emergency Bypass" with "Do Not Disturb" and find it works well with calls and texts. But I noticed that my VIP contacts (which are included in my emergency bypass) continue to alert me on my screen but not with a alert tone.

Please tell me if there is a setting which will correct this and so I can respond quicker to important emails without consistently looking at my phone. Thank you.

I do not believe that Emergency Bypass applies to email. It is only available for the two options in a contact for which you can select a custom tone: calls and messages. VIP contacts are entirely different. It seems like it would be a good thing if you could set up Emergency Bypass for them, though. You might want to submit that suggestion to Apple:
