Removing ex-partner from photos app

So I'm trying to find a way to seperate photos from a certain time of my life from all the rest.

I have over 30,000 photos and videos in photos app on my MacBook, iCloud and iOS. About hand of which relate to the time with my ex. I have a new partner now and it is awkward that so many photos of my ex keep appearing. The app is so linked to my devices so things keep popping up when looking for photos, memories searching etc. Is there an easy way to seoerste out half my photo collection to a different library. I don't want to delete them just for them not to be linked to all my devices and searches etc. I'm contemplating exporting them all to a third party photo app to be stored elsewhere. Is there any other easy solution?

Yes it would be a different library as posted

There are no libraries "in" the Photos App - libraries are on disk and you open the one you want to use - nothing is "in" the Photos App - it is just a program and does not contain photos

As to Popping up on devices that depends on what you have set - if you are using iCloud Photo Library then only the single library designated as the system library will sync with other devices

And there is no iCloud Backup for Macs so there is nothing to interfere with - again you give no clues but you may be talking about iCloud Photo Library which is not a backup but simply a syncing service and as noted only syncs the system library that you have designated
