How can I get ical to open to today

Ical always opens to October 24th and an event I have tried to erase on all my devices and in icloud keeps showing up. It's a genius bar appointment attached to a web notice. I continue to erase it every time I open ical, but it continues to show up and open to that date, not matter where I was working when I closed ical.

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015), macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, lesliefromgulf stream.
Thanks for the details about the issue you're experiencing on your Mac. If I’m understanding your post right, Calendar defaults to October 24th and keeps showing an event that you have already erased. I use Calendar on my own devices daily, so I can certainly understand why it's important to have it working properly. You’re in the right place for a resolution!
First, make sure that the date and time format is correct on your Mac, and correct it if it isn't. To do this, follow the steps in If the wrong date or time is displayed in some apps on your Mac, specifically this section:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. From the View menu, choose Language & Region.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
  4. Click the Dates tab.
  5. Click the Restore Defaults button.
  6. Click the Times tab.
  7. Click the Restore Defaults button.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Quit the app where you were seeing incorrect dates or times displayed.
  10. Open the app again, and verify that the dates and times are now displayed correctly.
Follow these steps next:
  1. Create a new temporary calendar on your Mac using the steps in Calendar for Mac: Add or delete calendars. You will eventually be deleting the calendar so name it anything you would like.
  2. Go to the event that will not delete. Control + click on the event, select Calendar, and then select the temporary calendar from the list.
  3. Delete the temporary calendar using the steps in iCloud: Delete a calendar.
Once the temporary calendar is removed, close out of your Calendar app completely, reopen it, and check to see if you're still experiencing the same issue.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have followed every step as well as any other suggestions I have been able to find online, to no avail. Every time I open my calendar a new version of the event I referred to comes up and the calendar in day, week or month opens to that day. I.e. I hadn't erased the event on the last few days I was working on my calendar, and today there were three versions of the event. I can't help but think that there is a link to another calendar that keeps putting the event on my calendar. The event is a Genius Bar reservation at the apple store in stamford, ct and I must have linked it to the apple store calendar somehow. I'm going to call them today to see if there isn't something they can figure out.

If you think of anything else, let me know.
