iPhone 6 Plus grey bars flickering on screen

My iPhone 6 plus started showing grey flickering bars at the top o my screen and the touchscreen stopped working. If I flex the phone slightly, the problem goes away for a while, but it continues to come back. I also noticed that if I cool off the phone using the air conditioner in my car, the problem seems to go away for a while.

I read only that this is due to a bad electrical connection to the touch ICs because Apple decided to not use underfill or a metal shield to help reduce flexing damage to the ball solder joints.

I took the phone to my local Apple Store and they told me it was a known chip issue and the only option I have is to pay $350 to get a replacement refurbished phone. If they know it is a design flaw, shouldn't they replace the phone for free to help keep a loyal Apple customer since my first Apple product: Apple IIc ?

Yes this is a design defect with the phone.

Apple offers a multi touch replacement for 150 I believe but the new phone will most likely develop the same issue. They have attempted to fix the issue by underfilling the new boards but the issue is with the trace on the board and not the chip itself.

Apples warranty for this is about 3 months after replacement. The phone more than likely will make it past that point before failure again.

There are also many third party shops that offer repairs to this issue with great results. Google, Yelp, etc can help find places such as these and show you customer reviews of their experience.

Hope you can find a solution that works for you.

Honestly at this point I could offer lifetime on this repair and not be worried about it. It's that narrowed down. Should apple warranty a phone bent in half that looks like it was beat by a baseball bat or run over? No not at all. But general use isn't being neglectful. This failure can happen from simply bending the phone from putting it in your pocket (front pocket). I've seen phones with a bend that we're in OtterBox cases.

Why do hardly any other iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc versions have this large of an issue if it isn't a design defect?

I understand you all are here to instill support of apple Products because of your own personal support but to turn a blind eye to it doesn't make it not true.

Apple knew the problem area and instead of admitting fault they offered a replacement program that required the user pay more for a phone with a temporary "fix". Again underfill will not prevent the underlying board trace issue.

You will see a lot of i6/i6 plus with searching/no service. Again another underlying board issue all stemming from a design flaw.

This all comes back to the soft aluminum frame, thus why when the 6S was released they went to a stronger aluminum frame and moved the touch control chips to the screen flex cable.

They recognized the issue obviously but their solution to the previous problem wasn't right especially for it's loyal customers who don't know any better. They take Apple at it's word.

I hope as a user yourself you would demand honesty and trust from a company you are purchasing a device from.

You're alleging that phones should be able to be dropped repeatedly without any resulting issues? Interesting.

Do these third party shops (such as yours) warranty the repair for longer than three months?

iPhone is a mobile device that should be able to handle some minor bumps. It is not necessary to throw the phone around to trigger this problem.

The answer to the last point is yes. Some good shops give 6 months or even lifetime warranty. Of course I will not provide links, because this is agains the forum rules. Moreover they actually reinforce mechanically the logic board to prevent this problem.

Their $150 "fix" is a joke. They replace it with a phone with the same problem. I too am now experiencing this problem and I treat my iPhone 6 like it has dynamite inside of it (in other words I'm always overly extremely careful and ginger with it). I've had it for under 2 years and I find it unacceptable Apple isn't taking responsibility for this more and replacing these for free. Seriously, for what I paid for it, it should last!!! This is horrible customer service and is making me seriously re-think ever buying apple again.
