how is the imac 5k (late 2015) assembled?

hello, i'm doing a research project for my Environmental Studies class, consisting of the MADE process.

i need some information on the assembly of the iMac 5k late 2015.

since i cannot find any information on the internet, i thought here would be a good place to ask.

You mean the actual assembly process? Or are you asking more about what components are in it, and how everything is laid out inside?

The assembly process would likely be considered an industrial secret and as such not revealed by Apple.

The way it is laid out inside can be find through several websites that do teardowns of the Macs, for instance:

You can look around and see a few images of one or two factory sites

that make computers or components; these are online and don't really

show anything close-up. ~ So they aren't likely to be blocked because

they're not detailed and don't show any critical proprietary secret bits.

Apple manufacturing: Inside the iMac plant in Ireland

Jun 1, 2015 - But the company operates a 4,000-person factory in Cork, Ireland*

that builds iMacs — and it's the only Apple-owned manufacturing facility in ...

If someone with special permissions from Apple went into a factory, the

information they would be allowed to get, would be limited in exposure;

so nobody else would gain an advantage or profit from Apple innovation.

The OWC and iFixit take part views are fairly good since the parts-on-parts

assembly (for one unit, not mass assembly-line) is just reverse of takepart.

You may need to stress the industrial and proprietary aspects of how or why

the information you cannot get, has reason for being scarce to casual viewers.

How this applies in the intellectual property of a corporate entity and its need

to keep details close, is a respectable position to understand & share.

Perhaps you could contact Apple Environmental to see if they can get info on

the steps their iMacs go through in the recycling process; for your course.

In any event...

Good luck & happy trails! 🙂
