When using Apple Watch Series 2 to record outdoor workouts, the built-in Workout app can record a route map without the paired iPhone needing to be taken along.
To view the map:
After your workout, once the Apple Watch and iPhone have reconnected, open the Activity app on your iPhone > Workouts (tab) > tap on a workout to view the results > tap on the map icon at the foot of the summary.
If route maps are not currently being recorded, the following steps may help.
If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:
On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
- Check that Location Services (the main setting at the top) is turned on.
- In the list of apps beneath, check that Apple Watch Workout is each set to While Using.
- If each setting is already enabled:
- Try briefly turning off Location Services and then turning it back on again.
- Try briefly changing the setting for Apple Watch Workout to Never and then back to While Using.
