How can I open iMovie 10 project in iMovie 9?

I updated to iMovie 10 thinking that it would have better features than iMovie 9, but I'm realizing that it is far less functional than the previous version. I'd like to switch back to working in iMovie 9 but keep my progress -- how can I go about opening my project in iMovie 9?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

It is not possible to open an iMovie 10 project in iMovie 9. However unless you deleted them you should still have the iMovie 9 application and the iMovie 9 Events and Projects folders on your hard disk. However editing done in iMovie 10 is only available in iMovie 10. iMovie 9 has several issues when run under El Capitan or Sierra so I would recommend persevering with iMovie 10. It is actually a big advance over iMovie 9 but it has dropped support for some of the older features. What are you missing in iMovie 10?
