In a post to a different thread, I described one work-around you can try.
I discovered today, that suggestion only works with the two podcasts that I originaly tried it with, and only because they happened to be sync'd to my library in a particular order.
What I think happens... the shuffle orders podcasts by the date and time they were downloaded to your library, most recent first.
NOTHING works to change this order.
I have since submitted feedback to Apple re: podcast reordering in shuffle. Fat lot of good that will do.
In the meantime, if I absolutely MUST listen to multiple podcasts in a particular order, like for a class, then I burn them to a CD in that order and drag out the old portable CD player. 😉 Back to the stone age!

I am experiencing a similar problem with my first
generation shuffle since the new version of iTunes
came out.
Now the podcasts that I use in a certain sequence for
meditation and yoga practice play completely out of
order.
I even treated them like a complilation to get them
to "stick together", pardon the unscientific
descriptor.
No dice.
Some of my guided meditations begin halfway through.
I've reformated the shuffle. Besides treating my yoga
music like a complitation, I tried specifying that my
meditations begin at "Zero" to fix the "starting in
the middle" issue. Nothing has worked.
Any ideas that y'all can think of that I haven't
described trying???
